BEIJING, July 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — A news report from China.org.cn on BRICS cooperation:

Warmth in the harsh winter: BRICS Cooperation Lights the Way to a Shared Future
As the path of greater BRICS cooperation unfolds, a new milestone is on the horizon — the 17th BRICS Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 6 to 7.
In January 2025, BRICS cooperation welcomed a constellation of new friends. Just several weeks ago, in mid-June, Vietnam also became a BRICS partner country. As an old Chinese saying goes: “A man of virtue regards righteousness as the greatest interest.” BRICS’s growing “circle of friends” reflects the appeal of a cooperation framework rooted in openness, inclusiveness, and the spirit of win-win, where countries can work pragmatically to safeguard shared security, pursue high-quality and sustainable development, act as forerunners in reforming global governance, and promote harmony among civilizations through deeper people-to-people exchanges.
First, the mechanisms and platforms under the BRICS framework serve as a vanguard for the common pursuit of high-quality development. For example, via initiatives like the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center, BRICS countries and increasingly, nations of the Global South, are engaging in wide-ranging collaboration in areas such as AI and the digital economy. The New Development Bank, meanwhile, offers strong institutional support: Grounded in the principles of multilateralism, it has improved funding channels and innovated settlement methods, helping translate technological progress into real-world outcomes, so as to share the benefits of progress with more people.
The philosophy behind BRICS cooperation aligns closely with each country’s pursuit of sustainable development. In South Africa, the Redstone solar thermal power plant, built by a Chinese company under joint efforts between the two countries, is now delivering clean energy to tens of thousands of households, marking a major stride on the country’s transition to a greener future. In Brazil, the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite (CBERS) program has been playing a significant role in monitoring the Amazon Rainforest, preserving the “lungs of the planet.”
These tangible outcomes have not only brought positive changes to the local people, but also demonstrate that economic progress and ecological preservation can go hand in hand, which shed new insights on the efforts in building the global ecological civilization.
Amid an ever-changing international landscape, the significance of BRICS cooperation has become ever more pronounced. When the Gaza conflict escalated, BRICS leaders convened a special virtual summit, alongside invited partners, to align positions and coordinate actions regarding the situation in the Middle East. As the Ukraine crisis continues, China and Brazil, in concert with other countries from the Global South, initiated a group of Friends for Peace at the United Nations, aiming to amplify voices for peace. BRICS cooperation not only epitomizes the robustness of emerging economies, it also embodies an unswerving commitment to upholding international peace.
Though July marks winter in Rio de Janeiro, the weather remains pleasantly warm, much like BRICS cooperation which continues to bring warmth amid global turbulence. From vigorous technological innovation to a shared vision for a green future, from the steadfast defense of peace and security to deeper bonds among civilizations, BRICS is writing a new chapter of common development. The world can look forward to more warmth and hope from the upcoming summit.
