New service enhances customer access to cost-effective cancer medications available in mainland China, helping to reduce cancer medication expenses while providing essential support for their treatment journey

HONG KONG, March 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Manulife Hong Kong has collaborated with Prosper Health, a leading health insurance service provider in mainland China, and Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital (the “Hospital”) to launch the industry-leading “Cancer Drug Support Service”. Through this collaboration, Manulife becomes the first[1] insurer in Hong Kong to offer this service to eligible customers with selected critical illness plans[2]. Additionally, this service will be available to eligible customers with specific medical plans[3]. The new service aims to offer customers an option to access cost-effective cancer medications[4] available in mainland China.

This collaboration highlights Manulife’s commitment to enhancing its health and protection offerings in response to the growing demand for medical services in mainland China among Hong Kong residents. It also reinforces Manulife’s dedication to empowering customers on their journey toward healthier and more fulfilling lives, with this pioneering service serving as an example of that mission.

Through this new service, eligible Manulife customers[2],[3],[5] with cancer medications[4] prescribed by their specialists can connect with Manulife’s Personalized Medical Case Managers[6] for assistance. These Medical Case Managers, who are qualified nurses with extensive healthcare experience, will help customers verify[7] with Prosper Health the availability and price of their prescribed cancer medications at the Hospital and, once confirmed, coordinate with Prosper Health to schedule[7] an initial consultation with the Hospital’s specialists[8] upon request. Additionally, eligible customers[2],[3] are entitled to a complimentary door-to-door limousine service[9],[10] for convenience throughout the campaign period.

“We are thrilled to partner with Prosper Health and Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital to elevate our customers’ health journey through the launch of our Cancer Drug Support Service,” said Carrie Tong, Chief Operations Officer of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau. “This innovative service is designed to provide our customers with a cost-effective option to access prescribed cancer medications in mainland China. By offering this alternative, we aim to help alleviate the financial burden often associated with critical illness care, enabling our customers to reduce their cancer medication expenses and focus on long-term financial planning. This initiative not only supports their physical well-being but also provides essential peace of mind during what can be an incredibly challenging time.”

“We are very pleased to deepen our collaboration with Manulife Hong Kong by jointly launching the Cancer Drug Support Service. This initiative builds on our previous successful experiences in cancer medical services and focuses on addressing the practical needs of customers in accessing oral medications for cancer,” said Thom Gao, Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of Prosper Health. “This collaboration complements our existing cross-border medical services, providing more holistic medical support for customers with specific needs. We hope to bring high-quality, affordable medical services to more patients.”

“We are deeply pleased to join hands with Prosper Health and Manulife Hong Kong to launch the important Cancer Drug Support Service,” said Brian Siu, Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer of New Frontier GBA. “Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital has always adhered to a patient-centered philosophy, committed to providing excellent medical services. In this collaboration, we fully leverage our advantages in medical resource integration and professional medical teams to build a convenient bridge for Manulife customers to access cancer drugs in mainland China. Through close cooperation between the three parties, significantly simplifying the medical process for patients, ensuring they can focus on their treatment with peace of mind. We believe this collaboration is not only an innovation in medical service models but also a profound response to patients’ health needs, bringing hope and peace of mind to more families.”

In December 2024, Manulife announced a partnership with New Frontier Group (the “Group”), the parent company of Prosper Health and the Hospital, as well as a leading healthcare service provider in Greater China, to introduce cashless services for eligible customers through Prosper Health. Additionally, eligible customers[11] will enjoy expedited appointments[12] for outpatient cancer treatment services and free one-time independent medical consultation[13] at any United Family Hospital within the Group.
